The new Lumix DMC-FX07 7.2-megapixel digital camera features a wide-angle f2.8 Leica DC lens with 3.6x optical zoom (equivalent to 28mm to 102mm on a 35mm film camera), an Intelligent Image Stabilizer by Mega O.I.S. Canon PowerShot SX120IS 10MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Images Stabilized Zoom and 3-inch LCD Review

I bought the SX120IS to replace my old a570IS, after looking at quite a few other brands and models in the same general price range (0-200). The manual focus was even better than I’d expected and it shoots pretty decent quality video. The 10x optical zoom was a huge improvement over my previous camera and I didn’t see any blurring when taking photos zoomed in all the way. The manual mode was very easy to figure out… I’ve enjoyed getting to know this camera and all it’s features. The flash seemed a little less effective than I expected considering it’s a pop up, but I don’t usually shoot with flash on anyways and there is probably a setting to change the intensity that I just didnt bother to find or change yet. Battery life is good, maybe a little shorter than on my old camera, but it’s got a significantly larger lcd screen to power, and that can be turned off to conserve life. Overall, I’m VERY, VERY satisfied with this purchase and would recommend this camera to everyone I know (and all you folks I don’t know).

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX580 12MP Digital Camera with 5x MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3 inch LCD (Silver) Review

I’ve looked at the various reviews done by other owners and for the most part, I was impressed. Impressed to the point of getting one – I spent, I received it and was surprised at one thing no one had mentioned.

This is one substantial small camera. It feels as if it weighs almost as much as my M3 Leica, has a spectacular lens and the controls are all there, but you better be willing to spend some time to understand how this camera works. You could just plop it into the IA (Intelligent Auto) and never really explore some of the other options. I did this at first to see how things happened. For the most part, the pix were adequate … Then I started to work with both the general set up and Scene Modes and was knocked over. This camera delivers on its promise. JUST exploring the Scene Modes, you have 26 different choices of presets for various situations.

If you want more manual control, you have Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and full Manual. The touch pad does take a bit to get used to … it becomes natural feeling in a short time.

In essence, I like it – very much. This is my 8 or 9th digital camera and while it won’t replace my DSLR, it fills a 25 mm wide angle / zoom niche which I wanted to explore. Their are bigger MP cameras out there – there are faster lenses out there, but this is where I wanted to be for my travels and even building files of pix of – ah – things. It’s very portable, almost unobtrusive but it weighs enough for you to understand you are using something which isn’t a toy.

If there is a complaint – it refers to the Sub Mini B Male connector which is annoying to use as I can’t find a short pig tail with that connection feature. 9 foot of wrapped cord is a bit much even on my desk.

In toto – the price is very fair, the quality of the case is off the chart, the lens is remarkable and the final out put is very satisfying. I look forward to enjoying this mini wide angle for a long time.

Panasonic DMC-LX2K 10.2MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black) Review

I purchased this camera about a year ago but never took this camera serious until recently. On an overseas trip to S. Korea. I ended up using this camera because I found it impractical to carry around Canon 40 D when you walk or ride subway most of times. I set the resolution to 7.5 M (the highest setting) and PROGRAM MODE in all pictures.

I had problems initially with the picture quality: most pictures were overexposed but I learned how to RESET and corrected the problem; the images were on BLUE side but I corrected by adjusting the WB ADJUST. Most of my street images are superb.

PICTURES ARE PARTICULARLY IMPRESSIVE WHEN THE EXPOSURE IS JUST PERFECT. I cannot really tell the difference which ones were taken by Lumix and which ones by Canon 40D. (As a fine art photography major in college, I am very critically of the image quality.)

Cons: Wish this camera had an automatic open/closure cap; I don’t like the little metal thing that you push to the right/left to turn on/off the camera. Why didn’t they come with up a recessed push button?; The battery seems to run out quick; the camera has RAW option all right but a RAW image is as big as 16MB. Besides, when you set to RAW, the camera takes a JPEG image at the same time regardless you want it or not.

Canon PowerShot SD980IS 12MP Digital Camera with 5x Ultra Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3-inch LCD (Gold) Review

I am really happy with this camera. It’s not a SLR replacement, but is very good and so much more practical in many situations.

I got the camera to take on a backpacking trip because I wanted to go as light as possible– but still wanted to get good pics. The camera exceeded my expectations and delivered great images. I was really happy with the colors it produced. There are situations that the sharpness is a litte soft– especially with the zoom and/or if you are trying to crop into the shot tight, but over-all the images are great. The wide angle is awesome!

The touch screen UI worked well and was pretty cool. However– I found it was quicker to use the dedicated buttons on the right for quicker/tactile access to common features. I love it that this camera still has these buttons compared to the newer model which is all touch-screen.

I was also very happy with the video quality. The 720p clips looks great. I cut them into my 1080i HDV footage and it’s hard to tell the difference. Zoom while shooting is digital and should be avoided.

I bought several extra batteries too, but I was pleased that I really only needed one extra as each battery lasted 7 days (about 500 pics) while in the wilderness. NOTE: I used minimal flash and shooting video will zap the battery much faster than pics.

PROS:
- Size
- Good/Great Images
- 24mm wide-angle is great
- Fast and accurate auto-focus
- Nice feature set and shot modes
- Touch screen cool, but…
- Still has vital physical buttons
- LCD is bright/vivid even outside
- Custom self timer (with multiple shots)

CONS:
- Sharpness with zoom
- Touch screen can be accidently activated
- Not a SLR replacement (but fits in my pocket)
